01 · The Situation

An exceptional product almost nobody could find, and almost nobody came back to.

A premium fragrance brand with a genuine story and products that stood alongside far more expensive competitors, doing $19,000 a month at 1.1x ROAS. Near break-even. Every ad dollar was barely returning itself before product cost and overhead.

The founder had run the brand for two years. She knew the product was exceptional and had the reviews to prove it. But the brand was invisible to anyone who hadn't already found it, and the customers who had weren't being retained in any systematic way.

The paid ads pointed to a generic product page. No storytelling. No brand context. No reason for a first-time visitor to understand why this fragrance was worth $180 instead of the $40 bottle they could find anywhere.

High-ticket products don't convert on the first visit with generic pages. They convert when the brand earns trust before asking for the sale.

"We pour everything into finding new customers and then do nothing to keep them. We know that's wrong; we just don't know how to fix it."

The brand acquired customers relentlessly, and did almost nothing to keep them or grow their value over time.

03 · The Architecture

Four channels, rebuilt at once.

The rebuild covered four channels simultaneously, not in sequence. They had to work together from the start for the strategy to compound.

Channel 01

Paid Ads: Meta & Google

Luxury fragrance doesn't sell on features. It sells an emotion, an identity, an experience; the product is almost secondary.

Long-form video (2–3 min): brand story, the nose behind the formulations, the sourcing journey for rare ingredients, for warm audiences.

Short-form (15s): sensory-led, ingredient close-ups, lifestyle texture.

Static: minimal editorial photography, one line of copy, let the image work.

Retargeting restructured around the journey: awareness for browsers, conversion for cart abandoners with high-ticket objection handling (returns, samples, gifting).

Google rebuilt around high-intent long-tail searches.

Channel 02

SEO & Content

Technical foundation first, then content built across three search intents.

Informational: choosing a signature scent, fragrance families, layering, reaching enthusiasts early.

Commercial: best luxury fragrances, gift guides, scents worth investing in, capturing active buyers.

Brand storytelling: the oud collection, sourcing vetiver from Haiti, meet the perfumer.

PR outreach: 4 backlinks in 20 weeks; domain authority 18 → 26.

Channel 03

Email & Retention: Klaviyo

The entire email architecture rebuilt around the luxury buyer journey.

Welcome (5 emails / 10 days): story-first, the perfumer, the sourcing; no product push until a soft sample offer.

Abandoned cart (3 emails): luxury tone, reassurance and quality signals, no countdown timers.

Post-purchase (4 emails): care, layering, complementary intro, repurchase prompt at 8 weeks.

VIP exclusives: segment for $200+ or 2+ orders, early access, limited editions.

Seasonal gifting campaigns for Valentine's, Mother's Day, Christmas.

Channel 04

Funnel & UX

A dedicated brand landing page for paid traffic, narrative before product.

Full-screen story section: philosophy and credentials, three scrolls before a product appears. It earned the right to sell.

Bundles & gifting: two-fragrance gift sets (10% saving), discovery sample sets, gift-wrapping, AOV up without discounting hero products.

Checkout rebuilt from 4 steps to 2; mobile UX fully overhauled.

Monthly organic traffic3,8009,200+142%

Repeat purchase rate12%27%+125%

The repeat purchase rate, 12% to 27%, was the number that mattered most. Fragrance customers who come back once become the most valuable in the category.

05 · The Takeaway

Trust isn't built by looking premium. It's built by earning it.

Most luxury brands answer a conversion problem by making the ads more elaborate and the website more beautiful. That's not wrong, but it misses the core issue. Trust is built by communicating why the product is worth its price, showing the craft and sourcing behind it, and making the purchase feel consistent with the quality of the product itself.

Every touchpoint here, from the landing-page narrative to the post-purchase sequence, was designed to make the customer feel they'd bought into something real. Not just a product. A brand worth their loyalty.
